## Summary
Schwab pays the referring client nothing. Its refer a friend offer rewards only the person referred, on a tier scaled to their own deposit, which is the opposite of how nearly every roundup describes it. If you are a Schwab client deciding whether referring someone is worth your time, the honest answer is that there is no payment in it for you.

## Tax treatment
Schwab states that for taxable accounts the bonus award will be reported on Form 1099-INT. It is the referred person's bonus, so it is their form.

## When it pays
Net deposits are measured on the 45th day after enrollment, and the award credits about a week later.

## Fine print that matters
- Schwab publishes no reward for the referring client. This entry records a genuine zero, not a figure we could not find.
- The referred person's award is tiered on their own net deposit: $100 at $25,000, $300 at $50,000, $500 at $100,000, and $1,000 at $500,000.
- The offer is limited to one per account, with no more than one account enrolled per client.
- Taxable accounts must hold the deposit for at least one year or Schwab may charge back the award.
- Schwab's published terms do not address where a referral link may be shared.
