At any moment there are far more live sign-up bonuses than one person can reasonably earn. The skill is not finding a bonus, it is picking the right ones in the right order. Here is a framework that takes about five minutes.
1. Start with what you can actually meet
Every bonus has a requirement: a direct deposit, a minimum balance, or a spend target. Before anything else, be honest about what you can do. If you have one paycheck to route, a direct-deposit bonus like Chase Total Checking fits. If you have real money to park, a tiered offer like SoFi Checking and Savings pays more. A bonus you cannot qualify for is worth nothing, no matter how big.
2. Judge value, not the headline
The right measure is the reward against the effort and money required, not the biggest number. Our easiest to earn list ranks by the smallest requirement, and biggest bonuses by size. Most people should start from the easiest end and work up. The State of Sign-Up Bonuses report shows the typical trade across the whole market: bigger bonuses almost always demand bigger balances.
3. Check eligibility before you apply
Confirm you are a new customer, that you are outside any cooldown, and that the bank will not decline you on ChexSystems. For card bonuses, check where you stand on 5/24 before you spend a hard pull.
4. Compare the close calls
When two offers are similar, put them side by side. We keep head-to-head comparisons of the institutions people weigh against each other most, showing each one's current bonuses and which is bigger right now.
5. Mind the clock
Some of the best offers are time-limited. The deadline calendar shows what is closing soon, so you can prioritize an ending offer over an evergreen one.
Put it together
Filter to what you can meet, rank by value, confirm you are eligible, compare the close calls, and act on what is ending. Do that and you spend your effort on the bonuses that actually pay.
